Radiant floor heating provides significant benefits in energy efficiency, comfort and lifestyle. Different types of radiant floor heating systems vary according to installation method and heat source, as well as cost and complexity, but all provide similar advantages in heating efficiency and comfort. The Ultra-Fin Radiant Floor Heating System is a leader in all of these areas:
Better Comfort
Radiant floor heating works on the premise of heating the floor so that the heat is where you need it – from the feet upwards. With most other heating systems, such as forced-air and electric baseboard, the heat simply travels to the ceiling, where it provides little practical comfort to building occupants.
No Dust
In contrast to forced-air systems, radiant heat doesn’t generate dust and blow it around the living space. Individuals who suffer from allergies especially appreciate the dust-free aspect of radiant heat, as do any homeowners who would rather avoid frequent dusting and cleaning of their home interior.
No Drafts
Radiant floor heating doesn’t contribute to air drafts from the home exterior because there is no displacement or movement of air within the building to generate vacuums or negative pressure.
Energy Efficiency
Radiant floor heating is less expensive for meeting daily requirements because, due to the nature of radiant heat, thermostats can generally be set at lower temperatures than other types of heating systems to achieve the same degree of comfort. Radiant floor heating works from the floor upwards, so there is less heat being “wasted” at the ceiling level. As a result, a lower thermostat setting provides as much or more comfort than heating systems such as forced air.
Heat Zones
Radiant heat systems can be easily “zoned” for different rooms and floor areas by using independent thermostats to adjust heat output in these zones. Each radiant heat zone can be designed to run on a separate circuit and thermostat from the other zones, so occupants can adjust the comfort level of each room or area as desired. This provides greater personal comfort, and it also means greater energy efficiency because less heat is wasted in rooms that are unoccupied or infrequently used.
Different Heat Sources
Radiant floor heating systems can operate with a variety of heat sources. While the most common heat sources for hydronic (hot water) systems are electric or gas boilers, alternative methods such as ground-source heat pumps can also be used to heat the water.
Decorating Freedom
Radiant floor heating doesn’t require vents, duct work, or baseboard heaters, so there are no obstructions or limits to where you can place furniture and décor.
